Clinical Psychology

Clinical psychology department of DIMHANS  is engaged in clinical, academic, research and community related activities pertaining to mental health.  It provides clinical services such as psychological assessments, psychotherapy, rehabilitation and functions as a part of multidisciplinary team in providing holistic patient care.  The department started its first batch of M. Phil. Clinical Psychology course in 2019 and it also offers internship for the post graduate students of other institutions.

M.Phil. Clinical Psychology

 M.Phil. Clinical Psychology course is a two year fulltime program running as per the guideline of Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences ( RGUHS) Bangalore. Currently it is being held under the guidance of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) Bangalore as per MOU.

The emphasis in M. Phil. clinical psychology course is on clinical training where students get directly involved in patient care under the supervision of faculty and learn to work in a multi-disciplinary team.  Rigorous training is provided to develop competency in diverse psychological assessments, therapies and rehabilitation. Apart from clinical training, students participate in case conferences, seminars, journal clubs, psychotherapy case presentations, group discussions as well as departmental and interdepartmental teaching programs.  They will be guided to engage in research work and submit a dissertation based on their research. Students will also be actively involved in community related mental health services.Over all, the course prepares students who are ethically guided, skilled as well as competent in research and services related to the field of clinical psychology and qualify them to practice as clinical psychologists.

Starting soon Clinical Psychology

DIMHANS is in the process of starting M. Sc. clinical psychology course   affiliating to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Bengaluru. This is going to be the first government institute to start clinical psychology post graduate training in mental health set up. The blend of theoretical and practical training in hospital set up ensures strong hold on the subject, making it as an excellent opportunity for the aspirants who want to pursue clinical psychology with various professional, academic and research related objectives.

The course will start in the academic year 2022-23. Students’ selection will be based on their UG scores, entrance test marks as well as performance in interview. Hence interested candidates can keep their name registered in order to get intimation of admission notification and entrance test.
