COVID Testing Lab

DIMHANS has been a front runner and proactively helping government tackle the COVID19 pandemic. Despite it being a super-specialty hospital catering to psychiatric illness, DIMHANS under the guidance of Dr. Mahesh Desai, Director of DIMHANS has been actively helping the public during the pandemic. Some of the initiatives to help fight the pandemic are: running a COVID19 Lab, COVID Hospital and COVID19 Tele-counselling Helpline.DIMHANS also conducted various community health programs not only to spread awareness but also to address the mental health difficulties people may experience during the lockdown. Below we highlight some of the contributions DIMHANS has made in fighting the pandemic.

DIMHANS lab was the second COVID19 testing lab to be set up in Dharwad. Under the guidance of Dr. Raghavendra Nayak, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, a lab was established and was made open to the public free of cost. The lab runs RT-PCR tests to diagnose COVID status. Till date, the lab has tested over 3.94 lakh persons for the virus. The lab continues to operate and test over 2500 individuals every day. Apart from Dharwad, around 20% of the sample testing was done for individuals coming from other neighboring 12 districts.
