DIMHANS observed its institution on 26th February, 2021 in celebration of the foundation of the institute. It is a day when all the employees of the institution come together as a family to remember the history of DIMHANS, to celebrate the developments made in the past year, to plan for the future, and to honor all the individuals who have contributed to the success of the institute.Sri S.V. Sankanuru, President of Karnataka Vijnana Parishath and MLC, and Dr. Rajan Deshpande, pediatrician and Head of Vithal institute for children, Dharwad graced the occasion and offered words of appreciation, encouragement and motivation to reach new heights.The program began with a welcome dance by the students, who displayed various traditional dance forms of India, followed by the lamp lighting ceremony. Dr. Raghavendra Nayak presented the annual report covering the progress and achievements made by the institute in the past year. Highlights of his report included construction of Bendre building for rehabilitation center, COVID-19 testing for 2 lakhs persons and tele-counselling for more than 10,00 COVID-19 positive patients.

Mr. Sankanur, addressed the gathering stating that he was honored to be part of the occasion. He visited the wards and hospital premises before the program and appreciated the institute’s efforts to maintain cleanliness, activities, development and clinical services. He was especially thrilled to hear about the COVID-19 testing and tele-counselling facilities offered by DIMHANS. He also shared our director’s vision for making our institute a center of excellence like NIMHANS, and encouraged the staff and faculty to work together for the development of the institute, and pledged to support our growth through government co-operation.Dr. Rajan Deshpande too praised our institute initiatives and rapid development in the recent years, stressing the importance of the mental health services provided by the institute. He encouraged the faculty and students to produce high impact scientific publications, and encouraged government-private collaborations to facilitate better referral system and mental health services.

The institute held various academic, cultural and sports events to commemorate the occasion over the span of two weeks. All the employees made use of the opportunity to rejuvenate themselves and participated eagerly in the competition. The prize distribution ceremony was held to celebrate the winners and participants with medals and certificates. The evening came alive with cultural programs to entertain the guests and the fun night ended with all the employees indulging in a delicious dinner.
