COVID19- Pandemic

DIMHANS has never been the one to shy away from responsibilities, and has always been a socially responsible institute. It has now risen to the challenge posed by the COVID19 pandemic in India.  Despite it being a super-specialty hospital catering to mental health, it has been actively playing a role in helping the public during the pandemic. During the first wave of the pandemic, DIMHANS launched a helpline, where individuals who tested positive were counselled, addressing fear, panic, and any other mental health issues the COVID19 positive patients or their family members may have. DIMHANS conducted various community health programs not only to spread awareness but also to address the mental health difficultiespeople may experience during the lockdown. DIMHANS lab was also one of the COVID19 testing center, and till date hastested over3.6 lakh personsfor the virus. The lab continues to operate and test over 2500 individualsevery day.

In a recent development, DIMHANS tied up with Civil Hospital for emergency care facility for oxygen dependent COVID19 patients. The inauguration of the 125 bedded DIMHANS COVID Hospital was graced by Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs of India, District Commissioner Nithish Patil, Jagadish Shetter, Minister of Large and Medium Scale Industries, Yashwant Madinkar, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, and our Director Dr. Mahesh Desai.  DIMHANS will be independently running this COVID hospital using the existing doctors, nurses, residents, and other manpower to provide intensive care for seriously illoxygen dependent patients.  DIMHANS also intends to deploy psychologists and social workers to counsel the family members of the patients admitted there.

DIMHANS will also relaunch tele-counselling facilities where individuals with psychological distress can reach out. Apart from these active measures, DIMHANS also intends to reach out to public through online seminars, articles, videos, poster, and social media to spread awareness on preventive measures, as well as tips to help the public cope with the pandemic. The efforts made by DIMHANS to cater to the public need during the pandemic has been recognised and appreciated by the government.
